I have searched and searched for answer to this: I have two hackable gh1's coming and I am concerned if I will have any problems formatting the SDHD card without being able to read Japanese. I know that won't be a problem after installing the hack. I think part of my apprehension stems from not having a camera in front of me to look at the various settings (even if they are in Japanese).

Formatting with Japanese Language Model

If you put an unformatted memory card into the camera, the camera formats it automatically.
Do you have a card reader connected to a computer? If so:
1. Put the card into the reader and copy the firmware over.
2. Put the card into the GH1, turn it on, and press the green Play arrow button.
3. You'll have to use the Up arrow to select "はい" which means "yes" -- then press the Set button.
That should install the hack... but the menu will still be in Japanese afterwards.
To set it to English after the hack is installed:
1. Press the Menu button.
2. Press the Left arrow to get over to the left column.
3. Go to the Wrench icon.
4. Press the Right arrow to get to the right column.
5. Press the Up arrow a couple of times and you should see something like "言語" (language)
6. Press the Right arrow to select this.
7. Press the Down arrow to select English.
8. Press the Menu button to set.

Oh man.....I will be able to sleep tonight......Couldn't find any info after days and days of searching.......If you hadn't added 2nd part about setting into English I would have thought that the hack hadn't worked and would have spent numerous hours trying to find answers....I cannot thank you enough........

Where were you able to get the camera?? I have been searching for one but dam it hard to find at the right price. Some info of where you got it please. Black red or gold available would be awsome

At the moment, the most common GH1 in Japan seems to be the gold one. Just about where ever you look, it's gold!!!
According to the tracking site the cameras are in customs (bay area)- 2 days from Taiwan. The person I bought them thru said he would 100% guarantee that they would be hackable and from what I have read on this site he is reputable and honest. That said, I would hate to recommend him if mine turned out not to be hackable. I don't think that he would lie, perhaps his suppliers really don't have any hackable ones left but assured him they were. I am torn between giving you his name now and waiting until I see if mine can be hacked. I am just trying to avoid anyone from being pissed at me if they turned out not to be hackable. He also asked me what color I wanted so apparently all three colors are available. Well anyway, my gut tells me that all will be well.....we shall see as I believe they will be delivered on Monday......

I mean im looking for a hackable one not japanese but to my figure only the japanese are more like ly able to hack
The good price to me is under $700 witout lens i don't need lens but if i have to i'll get one wit lens and sell the lens but must be under $1100 is good price
I can live wit the gold one as long as it hackable
Fchris what color did you get? Taiwan wit ems only take 3 days. How much did you paid for your? Can you please post the link to it while your is coming in ill check it out first and when you give a good to go ill buy it please thank you
Cams came today......Hacked easy as pie..... Surprisingly, after applying the hacks the language ended up already in English......Thereby eliminating the need to navigate thru a Japanese menu to get to the language settings as per Satsuei's instructions above......I bought these from Kerry Hu who has been selling these cams to dvxuser members thru his e-bay seller's name: thisisde1.......He has a 100% positive feedback and after checking out his dealings thru e-bay I felt I could trust him......I emailed him at: thisisde1@gmail.com and had him invoice me thru Pay-Pal and payed him that way.............I couldn't be more pleased with the transaction and would not hesitate whatsoever to do business with him again.......
