Is there away to keep the file number structure continuing after u format the SD card? 0001, 0002, 0003 etc... Sucks that it keeps resetting back to zero.
Is it me or am i missing a setting within the menu!?!
There's actually a great work around that I've been using since the FS100 days that I'd highly recommend y'all adapt as you're dumping footage.
Download R-Name for the Mac or similar for Windows and simply pull all of the clips out into a folder, remove the XML (not needed to my knowledge), and then grab all of the actual MTS files into the app. Add the prefix of A0001_ and now you have unique roll identifiers for all of your material (A is for "A" camera of course). Use these modified files going forward and you're set.
Pretty convenient if you ask me. My next move is to make an automator script that will run CopyVerified and then move/remove all the excess files to leave only the renamed clips in a separated folder after the footage is dumped.
Yes, photos can be numbered continuously but videos always start at 001 with a new or reformatted card. So if you use multiple cards you have to be aware of that when moving footage to a drive or computer. It's very frustrating if you shoot lots of short takes across multiple cards. Fortunately the file sizes aren't big, and you can fit over 2 hrs on a 64gb card.
In some cameras you can trick the numbering system (into not being reset) by shooting a small clip and renaming the file to the number you want to go on from. One extra card-to-pc-to-camera trip needed, though. But for a big project (a feature film?) it would be worth the effort.
And you can also do the renaming while you dump the card if you use some DIT software (I made my own excel thing for this, with bit verification and all).
