Hi,

I must send a File to MTV. They write there following:

Digital:
MPEG2 50Mbit/s
4;2;2P@ML - 4:2:2 4;2;2P@ML - profile at main level

Audio:
Maximal = 0dB (-9dBFS)

Format: 16:9 without pillarbox

Could somebody explain me how they mean? I'm using Sony vegas.

Thanks

1. It sound's like they want uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2 image in MPEG2 file format outputed at 50 mbps rather than 4:2:0 which a lot of cameras output to. (Please someone correct me if I'm wrong)

2. Audio levels should not exceed 0db.

3. aspect ratio is to be 16:9 without vertical black bars.

(Again someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Hi Thanks.

1) I'm using a 7d. Is my Image 10 bit and 4:2:2? Where to check 50 mbps?

2) ok

3) When I render in Vegas Pal. There is only horizontal black bars.

This might help you:

Things to consider:

Just because you shot in one format, doesn't mean you can't export in another. This doesn't mean you can magically increase quality the encoding in 10-bit, 4:2:2, just like how resaving a JPEG to BMP doesn't do anything except increase size. For compatibility with their hardware, studios often request such standards (and technically speaking, 4:2:2 is "better", but coming from a 4:2:0 source, it means little... Probably has to do with their own workflow), so encoding the clip as a highly saturated 50Mbit MPEG-2 file is not something to be seen as unusual.

Mmmmm.....

Sony Vegas 9 or above (not sure about 8) has a template for this.

Choose File Type : Sony MXF
Template: HD422 1920x1080 24p 50 Mbps (change 24p to something else if you didn't shoot 24p)

Two things:

1. You will need to ensure that your audio levels are legal They want a max of 0db with a 9db average range. If you don't know how to do this, you may want to enlist the help of someone versed in using a basic audio compressor.
2. Ensure that they can handle an MXF file before you give them one. If you can, ask them if they can handle an MXF file, and see what editor they plan to use this in, so we can assist further if required.

Hi Perrone,

I'm using 9 Pro. I found there the template you wrote.

I changed to 25p. Should I not change to 720x576?? I changed there from HD to DV and choose then 720x576 and 16:9. Is that correct?

The Audio is the Master of the song, so Vegas show me for the complete song 0 DB.

Yes I can ask them about MXF

You didn't mention if you were giving them HD or SD?

What MTV channels is this to air on? I know that channels like MTV Jams require 10 bit files but not in high definition.

Hi Guys!!

I must give them SD. MTV Switzerland.

What the difference from a AVI and a MXF?

Could you please tell me which setting I should choose in vegas to archive the settings from my first post?

Perrone are you sure about that? max peaking of 0db is very high.

The other thing to note on audio here is you are using digital sound so the first 0db which relates to analogue can be ignored. -9 DBFS - which is decibel full scale relates to digital. So, if I were given those specs Id set max peaking to -9db in the digital realm.

For reference in FCP for example the DBFS goes from -96db to 0 which is 16? bit audio.

Hi Guys,

I fould a better formular on the mtv switzerland. They wrote there:

Audio
Format: PCM Stereo
Pegel: -9db

I'm using Vegas, could somebody help me to define these settings there? I would appriciate very much, is my first time.

Those frame width specs and aspect ratio are completely different to the others you posted. Are you in switzerland?
