It's a great way to capture from or export to an analog source. VHS, Hi8, Cable TV, DVD player, etc. Also a great way to set up a preview monitor if you don't have a deck. Firewire to the formac, plug the formac into your TV in with composite cables and you've got a live preview out of most editing apps like Final Cut Pro, After Effects, etc.
I now have a Sony DV deck and no longer need it. I figured I'd offer it here before I post it on Craigslist or eBay.
