Looks great Vitaly!
I love the flat look but maybe it's just a tiny bit too much? Don't think it would have killed anyone to add a little contrast to it. Another thing is the 180-degree rule I noticed being broken a couple of times, nothing terrible but just something to keep in mind for your next film (Being your first this is actually really good).

Besides that I loved the sound (very well done), and the editing. Can't really tell much from the acting since I don't speak Russian and a lot of the acting comes from the dialogue, but it looked very good and your actors played their parts very naturally. The woman didn't show much facial expression but I didn't mind that too much (The over-all movie was so good she got away with it).

Oh, and the poster is to die for! It looks like it's ready to hit the cinemas. This being your first short I am eagerly waiting to see what you have in store for us next :) From Sweden to Russia, Молодец!

I like it when it starts good (in sound). Have you done Foley or is it all direct sound ? If it's Foley it's very good , if it's not Foley...Well...it's also very good (the beginning, I'm still watching, paused it :p)

The fumbling with the hose....was it ment to be or just by accident and did he "act" as his character ?

Nice introduction of the lady/wife/woman I don't know but she doesn't look very happy... :p

Very good editing when they see that "cube". You don't show it directly but let the viewer have some "suspens" first.

Just paused to watch some BHS pictures, looks very professional. I like it that you used the "platform" for the car. And with polizia to guide, nice.

Super8 existed already during shooting ? Or it was in the dialogue so you were "up to date" ? :-p

I didn't notice the car stopped running.... Maybe that part the "car standby" sound a little bit louder ? So that you hear it also when they're further and then
suddenly stops ?

Storywise it maybe needs some more "improvement". It's a bit "weak" I think... They're a couple...yes...and they have some isues...yes....

Looks great. Story a little clunky in the first half but the second half came good. The whole car journey prior to stopping added very little to the movie. There was nothing engaging there for me and other than a clunky allusion to the end of the world, nothing much paid off. I kept watching mainly because I knew something was coming and so 'endured' the slow directionless set up because I like science fiction. Perhaps a dramatic scene at home before the journey concerning his inability to say he loves her would have worked better and set up the tender moment between the two later in the story. The second half flowed better and the acting improved but would have paid off better if they'd had something meatier up front. The actors, particularly the woman, appeared to relish their parts having more to work with after the car stopped.

The CGI worked well. At 4.46 there is a horizontal tear from a fast pan that is duplicated in the CGI which made it more convincing, as did the powerlines in the middle ground. I liked the washed out look overall although perhaps the bright colour of the car was a little out of place in that colour scheme. Science fiction, especially where CGI is used, is so digital bright these days it was a refreshing change and suited the CGI elements very well. Overall I'd say the timing in the editing felt a little disconnected in the first half but again improved in the second half. The moment at the end where the ship jumped in close and the actors reacted was perfect. The score, actors and editing came together perfectly in that moment. My heart skipped a beat and I wasn't even that engaged in the story.

To sum up, I got the feeling that you brushed over the beginning elements to get to the parts that you were excited about doing. A little more development in the 'boring' elements and maybe getting to the point more efficiently would have raised this movie to another level. But that said it looked great and definitely shows potential. Fortunately the missing elements are the easiest and cheapest to improve upon. Some more time spent developing the script and the characters is really all that is required. I thought all the 'money shots' delivered. Of course these tendencies have dogged science fiction since forever so you're in good company!

First of all, the poster is badass. Probably the best thing about the whole project.

As for the film, visually it's fantastic. I love the color and the CGI (very smart how you didn't make the ship move). Also you had some really nice smooth shots there, especially the shot from outside the car ans they're driving. You obviously had either money to hire people or you know some very talented people.

The pacing could use the some work. I found the first two minutes not only a bit boring but pointless. There's no need for filling up on gas to take up 20% of the entire film. I feel like you could have made that sequence 30 seconds, and gotten to the story of the relationship faster.

The acting wasn't phenomenal, but it wasn't bad either. A little inexpressive, but that's better than overacting in this case.

Oh one final thing, I didn't like the piano music. Not only did it not fit the style for me, it actually cheapened the film.

Overall though, if this really is the first film you've made, you definitely have a lot of potential. I look forward to seeing what you make next.

The positives:

I really like the camera work here. Very well done. Good shot selection and editing.
The timing was a close call. I was right at the brink of getting bored, thinking "Something better happen quick", when they pulled over and saw the cube. (Drag that out another 20 seconds and you'd have lost me.)
Most of the effects were well done in that they didn't look like effects.

The criticisms:
The timing was a little close. You almost lost me right before they saw the cube. What we see before something happens should be interesting enough to keep us going until something happens.
The interchange of dialog after first seeing the cube was a bit lame. The characaters' reactions seemed more like something a writer would write, rather than something two real people would say.
It didn't end. You have a beginning, the start of a middle, and then it's over. So I'm left thinking "What's the point?"

A W E S O M E !

loving every minute of it, very nice and natural and man - if a girl is mad at you - the world could be ending but she wants her feelings acknowledge first! weee

Good work sonny! your effects are awesome! Dude who did your effects.

Its a great first short, you are rocketing to the world of film fast my friend!

Welcome!
