Forced Perspective in action! (DVX100a)

Well, I'm taking a photography class and I managed to talk the instructor into letting me use my DVX for the final project. The final project is to choose a topic / area that we want to explore in photography. I chose using forced perspective. The knight is only 12" tall. I applied MB to add to the CC. Any thoughts?

Hey did you use the anamorphic wide angle adapter for those shots?

Nope, just the normal lens, and then cropped it in FCP to a 2.35:1 ratio. I knew that was going to be my final ratio, so i made sure to frame accordingly.

Was there any interactions with the knight? I would like to see a clip if possible. Yeah, I do agree, some good looking greens..

Looks really good the DOF on the last shot is really cool. And very good work on the CC the greens pop and not over power the picture.
Thanks, I had fun putting this project together. Something I've noticed with the DVX is how well is can pickup the greens in a picture, so I wanted to exploit this and take the pictures in the woods. Then all I had to do was increase the saturation, and crush the blacks a litlle.

Nice job Waltind. I never would have guessed myself it was 12" model.

I did a similar set-up awhile bac; purely for learning. Not as dramatic as yours here but a good lesson in perspective.

(shameless plug this is not)

Nice setup John. I was inspired by LOTR, and I wanted to do something like that, so I found a realistic looking doll, umm, err, ACTION FIGURE, that I have to use as the stand in. Playing with perspective is fun. One thing that I have noticed is that eye line plays a big part in selling it. The better the eye lines match the more realistic the shot come across.

I would have loved to have had some interactions with the knight, but as this was for a photography project my main emphasis was on the picture rather then on action, so I do not have any clips. Sorry. :( But now that I know that i can do it, I'm looking forward to trying some live action ...

Wow. I can't stop thinking about what force perspective can do for little visual tricks.

Like a model car can look huge now........oooh I can't wait to try it out.

It appears to me that the knight and woman are about equal when it comes to focus. But being that they are really far appart, how did you equalize the focus?

With a lot of moving of the camera! Fortunately the ratio is about 6:1, so the woman is about 6 feet away, and the knight is about 1 foot away. I would pull focus on the woman, and then find the right camera placement and aperature combination. In the first shot the knight is not 100% in focus. But it is acceptable. If you look at the edges of the knight you can see that it is ever so slightly out of focus. Not that noticable. But it was tricky to find the right combination -especially since the cloud cover kept changing!! (Making it either to bright, or to dark, arg!!!)
