Thats the best part I think is the massive online gaming world. I like the idea of fighting for a virtual campaign with hundreds of people. If the coming BF 2 lacks anything, I'd think it'd be that element. I tried 'World War 2 Online' and it ws cool that it had Europe in a 1/3 scale but there was no one there :-/

My favorite so far is Desert Combat (BF Mod). Nothing cooler than taking off in an Apache, strafing the enemy airstrp, getting shot down, parachuting out and then jumping in one of their trucks and leaving (while running someone over).

I would like to see more a virtual world however and more relaism put into it (it is still kind of 'arcady') and would definatley dig the 'theatre' element.

Honestly Stalker looks like it sucks.  You play alone against artificial intelligence.  Lame.

Uhhh, Planetside fanboy, STALKER has multiplay capabilities built-in.

Er...John...that is a photo. lol

BLWolf - "Planetside fanboy"...LOL...so true! hehe Ok, didn't realize there would be a decent multiplayer element (up to 32 players they say). I didn't mean to bash it...was a little drunk last night. But still, I'll never go back to playing with NPC's and AI. And I read that you cant pilot the helicopters...bummer. Put me against thousands of real people...where the air transport needs a real pilot, 3 real gunners, 10 real infantry in the hold, and an assault buggy in the cargo bay with its own real driver and real gunner. And knowing that everywhere we go, everyone we see, at any time of day or night, is an actual person. Nothing like talking trash to a real person after you kill them.

Planetside also has realistic weather patterns, rain, thunder, lightning, snow, sandstorms, etc. You can even see weather fronts coming on the tactical map and use the cover and limited visibility of a storm to mount an offensive.

And as far as implementing the passage of time...Planetside takes place in real time with all real people. 24/7. So you can take over a continent before you go to bed and when you wake up the enemy may have taken it back.

Granted Stalker's graphics are awesome and the level of realism they built in is very cool. But I'll have to wait for the massively multiplayer online version.

I have never played Planetside, but I always wanted to. I just don't want to have to pay money every month.

One of the things I wouldnt like about that is that there is never a winner. Never a solution. Always an ongoing war. I like to win or lose.

Oh ****; that is a picture isnt it :P I was like WOW! :D

Yeah, a lot of people have said they don't like the ongoing war in which nobody ever truly wins. Some people also get tired of fighting the same war forever and say its always the same. I understand their perspective but I look at it a little different.

The war is comprised of many levels of wins and losses. You have to win a tower battle to get your troops close enough to the base to launch a proper offensive. Then you have to win the base, then you have to win several specific bases to make the continents capitol building accessible. When you finally take over all the bases on the continent then you win that continent and benefits associated with that. When your empire has taken over all 10 continents you've won the world. Thats only happened a few times in the year I've been playing. As you gain battle experience and command experience and move up the ranks you are given more responsibility (if you want it) and powers to carry out the responsibility. There is usually one high commander that is coordinating an offensive on a continent although he is constantly consulting with and getting situation reports from the other commanders.

So there are a lot of ways you can win. And since your winning against real people there is also plenty of trash talking after a win.

About it always being the same...I don't see it like that. Each battle is different because you never know what strategies and tactics the enemy will come up with (since they are all real players). It's always changing whether you're defending a base or attacking a base. Our outfit has a lot of military guys in it so we adopt a lot of military and swat tactics. Sometimes we'll mount an assault with a convoy of apc's. Sometimes we'll drop in from the sky, sometimes we come via water, sometimes we'll just ground pound it armed with rocket launchers. We always have an assault and a support element in our platoon, medics, engineers, hackers, grunts, pilots. All coordinated via voice with a strict command structure. Thats how we play but since there are no rules you can play however you want. Some people prefer to solo as a sniper, others prefer to be dedicated fighter pilots and maybe join an air cavalry outfit. I know some people that pair up with a good gunner and just drive a tank all day.

Our outfit also organizes special nights where we'll form a convoy of 30+ fully gunned tanks to tear across a continent. Or a fleet of 20 bombers where we can drop up to 400 bombs onto the courtyard of an enemy base in one pass.

And yeah, a lot of people also complain about the monthly fee. I don't mind $13 a month. I don't even notice it.

Anyways, going to Scotland for a week...I'll be having some serious Planetside withdrawals. :P

Speaking of Stalker, check out this chick:

She rides her motorcycle through Chernobyl with a geiger counter and takes pictures of it all... places that haven't been seen since it happened in the 80's. The whole place is deserted... SPOOKY
