For Sopranos Fans

disjecta

Lucky Duck
My friends and I are huge Sopranos fans and I particularly love the intro so I decided to create my own version. For fun, my wife drove me around Seattle yesterday afternoon and I put this together.

A little setup...my friends call us "the Chouters", pronounced "Shooters" because that's the nickname my wife and I have for each other (don't ask). So, instead of the Sopranos, it's the Chouters....with me so far?

In anticipation of the "what settings did you use" questions, I shot it using the f6 setting. Everything is at default except the chroma is cranked to +4. All footage is shot through the car window in the passenger's side, some in the back seat, and some with the camera hanging out the window  :) Also used the camera's squeeze mode, no anamorphic.

Aside from the fun aspect of it, I wanted to see how this sequence would hold up against the 16mm original. Looks easily the same to me.

Enjoy it: http://www.pinelakefilms.com/images/chouters.mov

It's about 12mb and just over 1 1/2 mins long.

Re: For Sopranos Fans

What do you edit with and what did you use to make those titles very very sopranoish, enjoyed ALOT

Re: For Sopranos Fans

Looks great.
What program did you use to compress that and what were its specs?

Re: For Sopranos Fans

that's so funny, i was about to do the same thing pretty soon but there was no way i was going to convince my girlfriend to smoke a cigar. Not a bad remake though

Re: For Sopranos Fans

that looked almost identical. Great job!

The one shot i dont like is the medium (kinda) shots of ur wife(?). Every other angle looked great, the smoke, sun glasses, ring, through the mirrors, its just that one angle that looks outa place to me.

Anyway, awesome job

Re: For Sopranos Fans

Good call, Cheesesailor,

My wife noticed that too. I made some edits to either delete or swap out those shots and reposted. I think the more close up ones give a sense of abstraction.... I left one medium shot in that I like but other than that, I like it better.

I used Sorenson Squeeze to create the Web file, you can check out the size, etc. in movie info in Quicktime. I used the progressive setting in Sorenson.

I'm revising this part about the titles. I redid them in After Effects. I was able to achieve a slight bend in the text as they fly in and out and also use motion blur. Exported with alpha channel and then composited over Premiere Pro timeline.

The helicopter guy did not show up for the shoot so I didn't get to do any stunts that day   ;)

Re: For Sopranos Fans

hahah i'm a sopranos fan as well and this was good.
compliments ;D

Re: For Sopranos Fans

HA! that was good. but if it werent for the fact that i knew you had to keep the credits coming to try and replicate the show.. that would be the most pretensious title sequence ive ever seen :P

Re: For Sopranos Fans

My favorite: you fitted the quicktime file to the 16x9 dimensions. I hate having to see the letterbox back bars on a video I see on the net. It just looks more polished, just another area to praise on a great video.

Re: For Sopranos Fans

i actually like the black bars.. it ensures that theres at least a little area of nothingness between the vid and the surrounding desktop, webpage, or whatever, its hard for me to concentrate on stuff when the background is distracting. but no lines is alot better when its large eough for full screen viewing like this. great job Capt. ;D

Re: For Sopranos Fans

I think your ISP is constipated because I've tried many time to watch it and it doens't seem to want to go.

Anyway loved your Waters Edge stuff, I'm sure this is in the same ballpark quality wise.
