New 16x Manual Lens.


Purchased new 30 days ago at BH Photo. Camera used for 1 shoot and then put back in the box. I am thinking about going HDV (Canon XH-A1) to mix with another XL2 I own. I am itching to capture HDV for Nature. If money was not a factor, I would keep both XL2's and add an HDV cam to the bunch, but it is! : (

I'm a previous XL1s owner, so I'm used to the XL series. I've been thinking about going the XL2 route with a 16x manual as opposed to a stock DVX100B. How would you describe your experience working with the XL2/Manual setup?

Well I have only used it once, but I can say that is focuses much easier, seems sharper than the 20x and I can do quick zooms when I turn the servo motor off. I can already tell it would be the right lense when shooting narratives-there is a back focus adjustment to really get a proper focus, and it seems that the back focus could also help in depth of field on static shots. In other words, it rocks!
