For HVX200A and Vegas Pro 9

Not sure how to post this in both departments since the subject is for both departments. Anyway here is the issue.

HVX200a:

I have been shooting at 720p/24pn giving me 42 minutes and the footage looks good. After talking to a few people in LA they said that I should really be shooting in 1080i/24pn and not 720p/24pn - They said you may not have as many minutes 16 vs 42 and even though both images look pretty much the same during editing but giving all that I will notice the big differences when I put the footage upon a large screen.

Vegas Pro 9

Putting the footage in on the 1280x720 setting it comes out pretty good but when I put in the footage at 1920x1080 and render it out I end up having black all the way around the footage.

Any thoughts on how to get everything set up right would be great!!! I start filming this weekend in Gisborne New Zealand and had everything setup as before but after spending my layover in LA and during that time met up and talked to few filmmakers now I'm thinking I need to really change how my setting are set up. The project goal is large screen.

720 is the sweet spot of the HVX-200A, and 1080 would be slightly sharper, but I don't think it matters. I think 720 24PN will look just fine on the big screen, and there isn't 1080 24pn on the HVX-200A anyway, which is why you end up wasting space.

Don't bother uprezzing, just stick with your original shooting settings all the way through.

As a side note, I shot some footage on a Canon 60D that was played back on a Standard Definition DVD on a theatrical screen and I was very impressed with how good it looked.
