For Festival: 720 24PN or 1080 24P?

I'm debating between these two resolutions. On the one hand, 720 24PN is gonna give me the most recording time, as I'm only working with 48 gigs of P2 space.

But if the difference will be noticeable in 1080, then I think I might want to risk having to hot swap on set. Is the recording space that much less if you go 1080?

What would a festival prefer? I'd assume 1080 since it's the best the camera can produce, but I guess the most important factor is how much a difference there is between 720 and 1080.

If it's negligible, I think I'll stick with 720. Thanks for any help!

You get 2.5 times more recording time per gig with 720/24pN.

1080p is noticeably sharper, but not astonishingly so. Still, it is the highest-quality format. Whether it's worth it is up to you.

Every festival has different requirements, and many do not even project in HD or 1080. Many are SD-only.

Thanks for the input. Looks like I'll have to go 720/24pn. Not a huge deal. All of my test footage so far has been that, and I've been pretty happy with it.

My first short film too, so I should probably avoid a potential headache if I can.

I would just add that, if you do any handheld shots where you might need a smoothcam filter
(which crops) or if you're planning on chroma-keying or if you're unsure of the framing,
you can shoot those sequences in 1080p24, do your processing, and render them out as 720p24
for the edit. When you're doing SFX, it's nice to have some extra pixels!

Not a bad idea at all. I'll definitely remember that.

Quick question. I just got my 32gb P2 card the other day and stuck it in my camera. In 1080 24p mode it says I have 53 minutes of rec time. Is that pretty accurate? And if so, do you think 53 minutes is enough space to shoot for about 8 hours in a day?

In 720 24pn I have 128 minutes. (48 gigs of space)
