For Blade Runner fans

Good stuff to know:

[FONT=arial, helvetica, courier, *] This coming September, there will be a new limited DVD release (HD-DVD & Blu-ray Disc are also planned) of the restored 1992 Director's Cut (you know... the one that isn't really a director's cut). This will be available for just four months. We believe this is basically the 2-disc release that Warner had originally planned to bow LAST year.

Then next year, just in time for the film's 25th anniversary, Ridley Scott's ultimate Blade Runner: The Final Cut will hit theaters for a limited run. This will be a REAL director's cut, with restored scenes and more - all the stuff that Ridley's always wanted to do with the film but hasn't really been given the chance to do before. That will be followed later in the year by an Ultimate Blade Runner DVD release. You can expect a multi-disc box set (again, likely with a simultaneous HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc release) that will contain at least four different versions of the film... ALL in full anamorphic widescreen, we might add. You'll get the film's original U.S. theatrical cut, you'll get the expanded international theatrical cut, you'll get the 1992 Director's Cut and you'll get the new Final Cut as well. Now... we realize at this point, you may have questions. Keep in mind, there's a TON of additional material that's going to be included in this set that hasn't been announced and can't be talked about yet - all-new material that you've never seen before. The set is pretty early in the planning and production stage, so it's way too early to talk details, but trust us... some very cool stuff is in the works. These extras will likely be different from the September '06 release, so if you buy both you'll at least be getting your money's worth.

But will our very own Barry Green's "The Making of Blade Runner" appear on one of these releases?

Hope they play this in the Dallas area, I would love to see it on the big screen. Plus I will get that DVD set when it comes out and yea, it would be very Kool if Barry's making of were included,

Barry get a nice pic on your IMDB lisitng already :P

Apparently there's 3 Barry Greens on IMDB. But I suspect that #2 and #3 are the same. Or maybe Barry just has multiple personalities. :)

It's been touched on before...

but Ridley Scott's "Director's Cut" editions have left a bad taste in my mouth up 'till now -
MOST ESPECIALLY the "is-it-noir-or-isn't-it" Blade Runner fiasco and the Tangerine Dream-less Legend.

I can't bloody wait to see the original & it on the big screen again.

I don't think you'll be seeing the original in theaters again, you'll be seeing the "Final Cut." But at least the OC will be included on the DVD special edition.

I actually don't mind the narration of the OC, but the "happy ending" is such a tacked-on at the end POS it is barely forgiveable. I mean seriously, we didn't see any sun -- let alone what we did see of tons of pollution and environmental issues -- for the whole freakin' movie, and then they ride out into the sunset. Give me a break, that just SUCKS.

But also, laugh all you want about the Legend footage (which it actually is not BTW), but the unicorn scene brings in the seriously interesting ponderance of Deckard being a replicant himself. Whether you believe the deck-a-rep theorists or not (Ridley being one of them), it certainly makes for an even more complex storyline.

Anyway, this is GREAT NEWS! I'm stoked...

If I remember right, the book (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep) did have a happy ending similar to the movie.

He's talking about the DVD release of "Legend" which did not include the Tangerine Dream score.

The original cut was included in that set, though.

I wasn't expecting to see the original in theaters. As I mentioned in an earlier reply:

I'm probably in the minority as I prefer the original theatrical release BECAUSE of the voice over. It gives it that great 40's Noir feel. If they could have just not tacked on the "happy ending" it might have been perfect.
