I just recently finished up a pilot that is similiar to two a day's (but we lack the resources currently do do an in depth production) and we are pitching it to Comcast.

We filmed with a DVX and a Canon XHA1. It was realy thrown together with very limited resources and planning, but it turned out all right.

If everything pans out, and we get money for future productions how much money should we charge for a similar but significantly better production of getting more pregame and players at home and school, good sound and animation. The turn-around time will be 2 days and we will have 4 camcorders for each game. How much would you estimate (give a good range if you can) for a complete production and post production.

We would lke to have is similiar to two-a-days.

Here are the links: (sorry I had to break them up for time constraints)

Also, any ideas on improving future productions? (besides horrible, horrible sound and poor timing, extremely bad color matching, and inconsistent narration) Like I said this was thrown together last minute, I was called five minutes before the game so I couldn't bring all of my sound and steadicam equipment)

Thanks in advance

The lockeroom footage is the feeling that we want to portay. We are trying to have a story that shows inside the lives of the team and the hardships that the players may face (in future productions).

For a last minute job, you managed to get some fairly decent footage, and I think you edited well given what you had. Like you mentioned above it would be useful to tighten up the sound, record with more cameras (very hard to do a football game & capture the atmosphere with just one or two cameras), and work on delivering the actual game in a continuous style (at one point coaches were being pre-game interviewed but there was what looked like game footage being shown, slightly confusing). That being said, I do think you captured some of the "Two a Days" essence you were going for. Nice work!

To figure out what to charge, you can start by estimating how long you think it will take to produce each segment in hours (roughly).

Then add up all your costs - equipment rental/maintenance, hiring shooters, etc.

Figure out how much you need/want to make per hour

Now multiply your hourly rate by the amount of estimated hours and add the costs/expenses and that should get you in the ballpark. This way you kind of guarantee that you're not going to end up making $2/hour as long as your hours estimate is realistic. Now something to consider would be learning curve. Let's say that you or your editor is still learning, so it would be unfair to charge for %100 of your hours, since you'll be figuring stuff out along the way a little...also, don’t forget that clients almost always change things, so either include something in your agreement that says “additional changes to be bid separately” or something like that, or pad your bid a little for estimated hours to make changes.

Hope this helps.
