Footage?

Close your eyes and ingest some magic fungi, the kind that you find in cow pies. Then picture yourself on a boat in a river.

That's what 4:2:2 can do for you. The question ICED OUT! still remains, what can you do for 4:2:2 - that is the big question

As blazingoat said, no footage has been released on the web yet. The camera has been shown on the touring ResFest festival, and people have been able to see footage there.

I wish they'd release some of what they've been showing at ResFest, etc. Even if 1080i. Why such close guarding of even that?

is there at least some DVCPRO HD footage from the Varicam or something on the web? That way we could at least get a feel for what it might look like?

Dont think it would be fair to watch varicam footage and think thats what HVX gonna look like.

But look at DVX footage and imagine even better footage.

Indeed, the HVX won't look like that, but you could get a feel of the codec then....

There was some footage that Jan shot out of a hotel window, is that right? Is that available somewhere?

Barry, my dealer says I can have my camera in December. Somewhere in this forum I read November might be the magic day.
November is next month and December is only six weeks away.

I don't understand why we can't see HVX video at this point??? What's the deal?

Because they're eighty percent finished with the camera and they don't want pre-production footage being looked at, scrutinized, and picked apart over the internet. If they let footage out people will judge the camera with what's available instead of what it can actually do. People will go into a feeding frenzy once footage is released and it makes more sense for Panasonic to wait and display the full potential of the camera.

Sorry, I don't understand. Dealers are accepting orders. Delivery is supposed to be November or December. 80% finished????? The few who could afford to go to IBC saw the camera in operation. What about the rest of us who are saving up for an HVX and can't afford airfare to wherever IBC was??

I had expected the HVX demo DVD from Panasonic would have been shot with an HVX, but it wasn't.

Asking for real footage at this point isn't an unreasonable request.

I'm with you, Bob! Jan, listen to us! November 8th, right?

November 8th is when the USA division will receive fully-working prototypes. That's not a date for footage, that's a date for the fully-implemented "test mule". So that's when the clock can start counting for the release of actual footage; which is why I say that we should probably see footage sometime around mid-november.

Delivery is supposed to be November or December.
Delivery will not be in November. It'll be December, and my guess (and it is only a guess) is that it will be towards the end of December.

The initial prototype shown at ResFest was about 80-85% finished. But consider that ResFest started well over a month ago! That 80-85% prototype is long since outdated. And, keep in mind that that's what the Japanese lab let out for showing -- who's to say that in internal development they don't have one that's much further along? Which would explain why a fully-developed model could very well be ready by Nov. 8th. In fact, I'd go so far as to say they have probably had fully-working models for a while now, but are doing extensive testing to make sure that they feel confident in releasing it to the sales force.

But here's what it shakes down to: footage will not be released until it's ready. As Orson Welles would have said, "We will release no footage before its time." They'll get the fully-developed model, they'll arrange some shots, they'll shoot them and they'll release some footage. But they won't do that before it's ready -- it would be foolish to do so, and counterproductive.

Thanks, Barry, for the great updates.

Sorry I'm relatively new to this forum and don't know everybody, but you seem to have an extraordinary amount of inside information from Panasonic. I've never seen some of this detail before. It's incredible. I realize you co-authored a DVX book with Jan Crittenden, which I'm about to buy. Are you a Panasonic employee?
