Footage to external drive?

hey!

At the end of this month, i'm going to Aspen, Colorado for the winter X-games.
I plan on taking my hvx200a with me, but i run straight into a wall because I have only (1) 16GB P2 card. A friend of mine has a Macbook, which he said i can take with me to use, but it's pretty loaded up with files of his. I was thinking of using one of my external drives ( I have a Maxtor that plugs up via USB) and put the P2CMS on my friends macbook, but put the video files on the drive. Is this even possible?

Can someone explain how to do this?

I'm hoping it's easy, and possible.

Otherwise, I'll probably end up not taking my gear because the whole trip is 10 days, and there's no way 42 minutes can cover it!

Thanks in Advance!

its not only possible. but in my workflow its the preferred way to go about it..

just connect the drive to the computer and you can either use p2cms or simply do a drag and drop or copy paste like youd do with any other files.

be sure to download the P2 drivers to his machine before you go

make a new folder on the external drive for each time you transfer the card and be sure to copy both the contents folder and lastclip.txt file

ok, makes sense! Thanks! btw, This doesn't change whether I'm using Firewire or plugging the card up through an adapter direct, correct?
