Footage missing from SD card

I just got back from a wedding shoot and I pulled the SD card out of my camera to look at the footage. I plug the card into the card reader and comes up with no files! The folder structure is there like the card is formatted by the camera but NO VIDEO FILES whatsoever. With the camera in playback mode it says NO DATA.

I've used this camera a lot and I've never had anything like this happen, I've had no other troubles at all with the camera since I've had it.. Has this ever happened to anybody else? Is there anything I can do to retrieve the data somehow??

Just to give more details... The footage WAS on the card.. During the reception I did re-watch a couple clips at different times. At the time the menu showed all of my footage as if nothing was wrong. I was able to continue filming until the end of the night with no issues or indications of malfunction. By the time I got home, I take the card out of my camera (while the camera was off), plug it in to the card reader and it shows NO footage.

The card is a Panasonic 16GB class 6 that I've used plenty of times before. It doesn't seem like the card totally died or anything, it still has it's PRIVATE folder and structure. It just doesn't have any footage.

I'm completely perplexed by what happened. It's digital; how does it just disappear like that...?

This is just a guess, but it could be a corrupted FAT (file allocation table) i had this problem with my desktop hard drive before and doingg a full CHKDSK fixed it. is it possible to run CHKDSK on a SD card? if youve seen video on the card it is most likely still there, just not accessed because of a bad header somewhere. ther eare other threads on here about various data recovery software.

How common is this with this camera.... does it also happen to other brands of cameras that us sd cards. This would be devastating... not suitable for any kind of business.
