Footage glitch was USB related.

Had a slight panic this week, got back from a shoot, copied files to the NLE,and there was blocky compression noise all over the place. I was in a rush and managed to edit around the glitches ... copied the file to another computer, same glitches.

Long story short, it seems when I copied the SDHC card to my media folder, there were some glitches in the file... somehow the NLE was having problems with it's USB ports, or the card reader. I go through card readers like crazy.. it's not funny. They'll work for a while, then start acting buggy (a file copy locks them up, keep disconnecting devices) ... anways.. I thought I had a serious issue with my 150 , was just in knots worrying about an upcoming gig.. having the buy a new camera...

I can use my netbook to copy cards to server then to NLE, but I would rather fix the problem than manage workarounds all the time. Makes me think I can't trust my USB ports, and that ain't good.

What NLE were you using? I've seen issues in transcoding to FCP where I get digital horizontal hits. Re-transcoding seems to take care of it. I'm suspicious of doing other things on my Mac while transcoding.

Cheers

John
