My brother is a chef preparing for a competition.
Today I taped him and did a speed cut to some Chick Corea.
Not a serious project, but feedback is welcome all the same.
I've had my DVX for about 3 weeks now.
I haven't shot any drama yet, so I had to make my own.
Tried a few new (to me) editing techniques...depends pretty heavily on the music.

Re: FOOD CLIP

Thanks for sharing Hillcity. Nice choice of music. Felt like I was watching a 'food show' (in a good way). Thats your brother making that meal? Damn, I bet family get togethers are good when he's cooking!

Re: FOOD CLIP

You have a crazy website, my friend. I have a disconcerting feeling that it is too sophisticated for the likes of me.

The Soufleé video was neat. Clearly not something you put a lot of thought into in advance, just a practice, no? That's what I've been doing since I got my own DVX a week ago. Actually, haven't even looked at most of what I've done with it.

Was there any reason you did so many cuts to black? That was what stood out to me the most. I got the impression that was to cut along to the music, but I think it would have been cleaner and snappier if some of the shots had just been cut closer together.

You make me realize how I need to be out there doing more. I hope I can pull off something this good on my first try.

Re: FOOD CLIP

yepindeed.
The lighting was a big deal to me...I usually light the crap out of my scenes.
It was hard for me to trust those shots on the stove where there are so many blacks, but I'm really pleased with them. I've always had washed out six billion IRE footage before because I've always been paranoid about underexposing certain textures and people with darker skin.
I found that if I play the iris against the ND filter's I get a pretty decent depth..
also, I have NO idea what's going on with the shutter speeds. I'm an idiot in that respect. I think this was on 1/24...but I have to sit down somewhere and concentrate REALLY hard to make myself understand them. Am I wrong to try to carry over my understanding of shutter speads and apertures from still photography? Because something's not right....

Re: FOOD CLIP

Doh!
I spelled Souffle wrong...

I had "Souflee"
guess I was thinking "entree"

I should probably change that huh?
