Food Chain - speedbump

I thought this was pretty cool and wierd. I thought the beginning was funny and the whole one long shot thing worked well. I thought this one was really unique and that you should do pretty well because its so different than alot of the others
 
Could have benefitted greatly from some music, sound effects, and more editing.

Got a bit too silly, even in this redneck rampage of a world. Looked like you didn't get to spend as much time on it as the other entries I have seen thusfar.

The masking for widescreen seemed odd? I think I could still see the image in the black bars...

I did like the main guy in the cowboy hat. His performance was solid throughout.
 
Cropping on this was odd, as the picture was showing through, which was pretty distracting at first.

My notes from Saturday: Pretty funny, good twist on the genre. Seemed hard to tell on quality due to compression/size & style of the film (all "night shot" look).

I know there's a punch line in there at the end, but didn't really get it. Is their "herd" also zombies?

I did laughout loud when we first saw someone on the ground, thinking it may have been one of the rednecks only to see that it was the redneck eating the zombie. Good FX with the zombie's body coming apart.
 
It seems you like a lot of effort went into this getting the zombies ready and everything for a simple joke at the end. I would have rather just seen a daytime thing but I guess it works because it is unique from the others.

I started out by just kind of throwing various takes together, and then started to go through and clean up the transitions. But I realized that a redneck wouldn't do that, so left the jarring transitions in, just like an amateur would.

Music has no place in this style of short, unless maybe during final credits roll. Better sound effects, definately!!! By the time I was at that point in the editing stage, it was time to turn in the clip, and I had to make some hard choices.

Hector- you are right that the payoff at the end isn't what it should be. Essentially, we planned to show that HUMANS had been reduced to cattle for vampires who had inherited the earth. Unfortunately we didn't get enough coverage of the human herd for various reasons, so that message doesn't quite come across.

We had a much bigger vision than what we ended up with. Again, it was a case of running out of time during the shoot, and that was that. Check out our 'Making Of' segment on the DVD for details of some of the unique problems we had during this shoot.

Oh, now I get it. Had no clue that they Rednecks were supposed to be vampires, and that the varmint's (zombies) were eating their herd of humans.

Just thought the Rednecks were freaks, and that the herd of humans were more zombies.
 
I got that part -- the humans were the herd, the zombies were attacking the herd, and the rednecks were vampires... I thought it was very well done, speedbump. I liked it a lot, especially the actors' performances. Well done, I rated it highly.
 
Okay, so after reading this thread, I now understand the story. That's pretty damn funny.

It had some well written dialog, and the actors were awesome. Especially the lead.

I liked the appendage throwing, as well as the guy who was cut in half.

The stuff in the beginning looked like some good night-shot emulation, but as the film progressed, the quality seemed to dip.

Overall: It was too confusing for it's own good. But entertaining none the less, and had a good idea.

My heads still reeling from that storyline.
Good job...I think.
(I'm going to go lie down now.)"

I'm glad to see the plot didn't elude me after all (and after only one screening!)
I did enjoy your film.
I just can't get the image of someone pitching this story to a open-jawed producer out of my mind. :shocked:
