Would Any One Be Interested In A Follow Focus System, For Their
Dvx. I Became Interested In One And Found Them To Be Very Expensive.
I'am Considering Making Custom Part's For Different Model's. At This
Moment I'am Looking To See If There Is Any Interest In Such Item's.
Something Comprable To The Chroznel Unit?

Absolutely!! We've already got one mad genius *redrock* working on a Mini35 adapter. His is called the Micro35 (www.micro35.com) and should sell for like 500 but you could build it yourself for cheaper with his "how-to guide." To answer your question.....Hellz yes we'd all like an affordable Follow Focus. Even Half the price would be nice. What did you have in mind? ~reservoir~

This begs the questions:

1) Is there a complete unit with demo footage?
2) Does it operate wirelessly?
3) Is it fully mechanical?
4) Does it require rods? If so does it fit standard rods?
5) Are the starts and stops smooth?
6) What are the slowest and fastest speeds?
7) Can the speed be changed?

DPDave,

I like your avatar! I remember using my first divergent turret like it was yesterday... ah, the 16S/B!

Memories... like the celluloid of my mind...

* EDIT *

We would be up for at least one unit. Overland Films would require at least 24 hours with a loaner unit for evaluation. The transaction would be secured with our corporate credit card and we would pay shipping both ways (should we decide to return it). Let me know when you have a production unit ready for evaluation?

I'd be interested, but I've been burned bad by those cheap Focalizzare units. $450 down the tubes. Don't buy one if you get the chance. Mine just sits in the corner with no real purpose.

I would want to see prototypes and such, but that still doesn't tell me anything. The Focalizzare units looked great as well, but bind and squeek and good luck getting ahold of the company.

OK, my rant is out of the way and I would say that I might be interested and that if anybody wants a good deal on a sub-standard Focaliizzare unit at a low price let me know.

Best,

I don't know all the proper terms since this is my first follow focus, but I'm smart enough to know that it's not right.

first off, the focus knob itself is really tight and hangs up in certain spots and will not rotate evenly. This might be fixed if the knob were attached with a removable screw, but instead it is attached to the "drive shaft" via a rivet, which is not adjustable.

Second, it squeeks loud enough to be noticeable through the mic on occasion. I've lubed it and such, but there is no difference. Still squeeks which is partially due to how tight the focus knob is.

The gear arm will not lock all that tightly so there might be an issue with it not engaging the focus ring properly or coming disengaged. I think if you cranked down the arm-tension screw with a pair of pliers it might hold, but I don't have to tell you how bad of an idea that is.

that's it for the most part, but then again that covers most of the working parts of the unit.

I've tried repeatedly to contact the person who sold it to me, but they have never gotten back to me. I contacted eBay, but they are no help. The good news is that they don't seem to be selling them anymore. I got screwed and I'm sure others have as well.

So, to summarize...I got hosed and it hurts.

The good news is that they don't seem to be selling them anymore. I got screwed and I'm sure others have as well.

So, to summarize...I got hosed and it hurts. It won't break me, but I no longer have a budget for a follow focus and I feel I need when often when using my Magiqcam.

I hope somebody would come out with an inexpensive alternative that is of good quality. I'm not any good at engineering or machining, but it doesn't seem like it can be that hard. Harder than I think, but it really isn't rocket science.

If somebody develops a good plan on producing one, I might be willing to lend them my failed purchase for research. I'd of course need a discount to buy the final unit. :)

I'am Looking At Different Models, In Order To Get An Idea Of Which One
Is The Best. I'd Like To Make It All Out Of Alluminum, With Rods And
Possibly An Extension Arm. Any Suggestions On A Model That Works
Well.

Arriflex makes good follow focus units. Try taking a look at theirs. Also if you make them, it would be totally cool if you made them to fit standard lens rods so that they could be mounted on other lens rods and matte box systems. :)
