Focusing

Hi!

I just got my GH1 and I'm experimenting with the hundreds of bells and whistles. Great cam.

I was wondering if anyone has tips for focusing during video.
I set my video recording to creative mode, exposure M.
And turned the left dial to MF.

Now when I focus, the GH1 instantly zooms in to assist me.
Questions:

1) How do I turn the focus assist off?
2) Is it possible to "lock" the start and end of a zoom "range", so that when I start recording, I can zoom from A to B without going "too far"?

I don't have this wonderful camera yet. But i assume you just turn the left dial to AF.

By the way.
Does the instant zoom assist stays on while you're recording?
 
I hardly use the kit zoom but if I remember rightly you can't use the focus assist when recording, only before recording. If you don't touch the focus ring after achieving required focus, the assist goes off after several seconds back to normal full screen view, but so you don't have to wait that long every time, I just half press down the silver shutter button (on the handgrip) and that terminates the focus assist zoomed view immediately (or press the red record button).
 
1. You can turn off the auto engaging focus assist in a menu, check the manual. I'm too tired now to do it for you. Then the left key pad button on the back engages it.

Thanks for the tips!!! I havent found it in the manual yet, but I'll post it here as soon as I know how.
 
Just look around in the menu, it's there. There's also a PDF manual available online...search around...I use that more than the paper one, it's searchable and in color!
