Focusing trick thingy...

Hey guys,
Sorry from the get go cuz have no idea what it is called...but how do you get the effect of focusing through a scene so like everything is blurry in front then behind kinda thing, and you can do it from the back of the scene or shot to the front, I always thought that was cool effect and since I just got my DVX yesterday I have been trying non stop to get it but I can...Thanks for any help in advance!

Hey Buck, what you're referring to is depth of field (DOF) and rack focusing. Do a search and you'll find TONS of posts and advice on these subjects.

.. go to www.cybercollege.com and search for "selective focus" which is both a creative use and standard byproduct of a shallow DOF. 3 things to remember :

1. use the longest lense you can- zoom in

2. be as close to the subject as you can while keeping the lense long enough without sacrificing your framing.

3. open the iris as much as possible. you may need to use ND filters to compensate for exposure .
