Focusing Question

What is the best way to focus on "everything" with the dvx100b? Especially if your subject is moving from further away to closer to you, and vice versa....
Thanks!

Shoot at a wide focal length, close down your aperture, find the hyperfocal distance of your focal length. If you've exhausted the following options and don't want to rack focus then you will need to to use a camera with a smaller sensor. That being said, you should be able to get a really deep focus with a dvx100.

Ok, idk if its just my computer, or my internet connection, but is this video choppy for anyone? Also, it was filmed in 60i, so is this just about as good of quality im going to get on youtube?

Lastly, I played this back on my TV monitor, and my face was nothing but a splotch of grain. How can I stop this from happening when filming from a distance about this far?

Thanks

No - youtube can be quite good, but the maximum quality for this clip was 480 - as in less than SD quality - and youtube squashes low res clips - I guess on the assumption that if you upload low res, then they can optimise it for quick download rather than any other attribute. Not only low res, but I suspect they probably also changed the frame rate too, and that's what makes it less smooth. Did you upload a high res file? The boarders face, compared to the frame width means pixelation is inevitable at this resolution. Something went wrong with the upload - where did the file come from and how did you do it?

I exported it out of final cut pro with the codec apple pro res 422 (source) then compressed it using mpeg streamclip. From there, I compressed it as an mpeg-4 file, with these settings

Then I uploaded that file to youtube.
