Focusing: HDMI or loupe

Hi,

Just wondering what experienced D90 users recommend for focusing - a loupe like the Z-finder or an HDMI monitor. I've tested HDMI output with a 1390x720 LCD monitor (via DVI) but it seems to downgrade to a much lower resolution. The monitor reports 720x480 but I'm not sure if that's accurate. It seems one can judge focus based on aliasing - objects in focus seem to pronounce those horrible stair-stepping artifacts.

I have no experience with a loupe. It seems strange to me that simply magnifying the existing low-resolution LCD is going to help much although if the stair-stepping artifacts get magnified like in my monitor test I guess that might be good-enough for tack sharp focus.

What opinions?

I havent used either of them, but as long as your not doing really low angle shots I'd think that the loupe would be better since it blocks out light. Just a thought.

I've been using the Hoodman loupe quite successfully! I taped it to the plastic screen protector so I can quickly remove it. Works like a champ! Just bought the new eyecup for it too. Took it on a shoot today - was able to hold it up to my eye just like a regular cam corder.
