hey there,

tomorrow I will be shooting a short with the HD 100, a friend of mine told me to pay attention to the focus. ok, back focus has to be set, now should I measure the distance the old school way with a tape measure and set the foucs ring, or should I use the focus assistent, and how does it work with the colors?????

any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks a lot,

best,

david

To get accurate focus without a monitor is hard but the view finder isn't bad on this camera. Measuring the distance would give u accurate focus but it's time consuming. Focus assist works by making the view finder black and white with the edges that are in focus blue(or green or red. depends on what color you set it too). This is very helpfull but I have found that it is somewhat misleading. 10% of the stuff i've shot using focus assist is still a bit blurry when viewed on the big screen. I would say test it all out and weigh in whether you can afford a decent monitor but your shoot it tomorrow. If you have time use the measuring tape and if not try to use the focus assist the best you can.

Without a monitor, I found a decent way to get focus is to zoom in a bit, focus with focus assist, then zoom out.

Yes, the focus assist and overall focus feel is awesome on the HD100!

The HD100 really feels like a pro camera.

How does the stock lens handle shallow DOF? Can you perform credible pull focus with the current lens?

thanks
