Focus shift advice

I need some advice on pulling focus shifts where you have subjets that are different distances apart and you bring one into focus while blurring the other and then switch the focus to the other . How do you make a dramatic focus shift from a subject that isn't very far away from something behind them? What f stop direction should you go as subjects are closer together and how should you compensate with shutter and lighting in relation to f stop?

I would like to make the subject stand out while blurring the background as much as possible.

Thanks for any advice. I think this thread could be helpful to other users as well.

position the camera far away from the subject and zoom in. have the f-stop wide open.
you should be able to focus on one suject and blur the background.

like he said go far back, and have the iris way open. if you have a 35 mm lense adaptor that would help too but im guessing you don't.

Thank you. Another dumb question, but the wide open Iris will be too bright, so do you raise the shutter speed to darken the picture to keep from blowing it out being too bright?
No, I do not have the 35mm adapter.

then close the f-stop to control the light. you might not get too much depth of feild but it should still work.
or you can buy nd filters for that camera. check what size of lens diameter your camera has and just get the same size of screw on nd filters. they aren't that expensive.

increase ur shutter speed to block out some light also. but be aware that if ur shooting in 24p mode it will after how the movement of things in ur scene to some extent. do some tests .
