Focus ring issue on HPX-170

Hey everybody, I am sorry if this has been posted before but I tried doing a forum search and was unable to find what I was looking for.

So I am having a problem with the focus ring on my new HPX-170. The problem is that as the ring spins and the numbers change (I have it in feet) it gets ahead of itself. For instance if I spin it quickly from 10 feet to 35 feet it will say I am 35 feet for a moment but then the counter will drift down to 32 feet or something like that. It makes rack focusing really tricky.

Have others had this problem? What should I do since it's so new? Send it back to panasonic right? What's the best way to do this? I'm a bit of a newbie on this kind of stuff so all help is most appreciated, thanks!

Do you have manual focus assist on in the sw mode menu? If so that might be your problem.

If you have manual focus assist on that may be the problem. If not, the control board within the unit may need to be repaired.

I just tested this with our HVX200 and I think that you are seeing a side effect of the encoder type focus ring. Since you are dealing with a digital focus system the only step that you have is 32ft and 36 ft in this range. Nothing in between. If you are on the edge somewhere in-between, you will see it flip from one to the other sometimes. This is completely normal. Make sure that you are set to manual focus and that your assist is off. Otherwise, no "control board" repairs or camera returns are needed.
