Focus Ring Broken. Please Help

The metal ribbon that connects from the inside of my DVX100a to the focus ring snapped off. Now I cannot focus the camera. Can I solder it back to the metal connector on the focus ring? Over the phone a repair man said they Panasonic does not supply the ribbon and he would have to replace the entire section - costing $1200.

Thats ridiculous. I've been reading on the net that the focus assembly kit costs $70. Does this include the metal ribbon? And do you think I can fix this myself if I bought the focus assembly?

All suggestions welcome. I love this camera. and feel like Im being ripped off.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the ribbon cable does not come with the focus assembly. Also, you can not order the cable seperately. You will have to purchase a whole new lens assembly.
