Focus Problems

I've just noticed that my DVX100a is experiencing problems while focusing on objects that are positioned really close to it.

Long story short – I've got some video clips of Tokyo captured with my brand new Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 digital camera. The 30fps/16:9 videos look absolutely gorgeous while playing on the camera's LCD screen, but once imported and played in Quicktime/FCP you can tell they've been taken by a digital camera (think – old school camcorder quality).

So the brilliant (or super silly) idea du jour was to prop my DVX on a tripod and shoot the digital camera's LCD screen. Seems like the dumbest idea in the world, but it actually works like magic. From a distance, though. Basically if I focus in all the way, the image gets all blurry. I have to zoom out a bit to the point of showing the body of my digital camera. So, I'm assuming the DVX has problems focusing in all the way into objects that are close to it? I've tried different light/position settings, to no avail.

Any suggestions?
 
There is a minimum object distance of 0.6 meters on the DVX100A. This is perfectly normal for the camera to not be able to focus on objects that are closer than that.
 
Horse is right. although the DVX *does* have great macro, it has it's limitations. If you're trying to record from a monitor, about all I would suggest is maybe using a bigger monitor as your source? This way you couldn't have to be as close....
 
thanks for the advice.

unfortunately i don't think the bigger monitor solution will work – it is bound to reveal noise and make it very apparent that the footage was shot with a digital camera. the brilliant, awesome camera LCD was the only source that made the footage look great.

i suppose i'll just work on the digital camera video clips in AfterEffects. Thanks, though :)
