Focus problems?

Long time reader, first time posting. This is a great site and I have one of those amazing batteries from Jarred.....It is ALL that, for real. I need some help: I'm shooting a doc in 30p and I have noticed that my close to medium shots seem not as crisp as the background. My shutter is at 1\48 or 125 with the lens either open or at 1.7 thru 2.5. Is there something that I'm not aware of, or does the DVX need to be serviced? It has never been dropped, kicked or mis-handled in any way, and I need to have some information on how I should make some changes in my attack to filming.
Thanks for your help. This forum has been very helpful and fun to check-out

You can check your detail level in scene settings (you could turn it up although it wouldn't affect focus it could generally sharpen the picture) But really just keep racking that focus and get used to doing very well if you do documentary. Are you shooting anamorphic if so there is a table some where on Adam Wilt's site that has a chart for minimum focus:aperture (very useful). Also wider aperture leads to shallower DOF so perhaps you could keep it more narrow than f1.7...
