I have taken the camera out of focus assist and put it in manual but if the subject moves then the camera goes out of focus and refocues on an object beyound the subject. Have I missed something that I should have turned off/on.

Are you saying that it's continuing to autofocus, even though you've told it to perform manual focus?
If so, check the position of the auto/manual switch -- if it's still set to auto, then the camera is going to autofocus no matter what, regardless of what the manual focus switch says.

It is swithched to manual focus, but i think we figured it out we were using the focus assist and then on the touch screen hitting return and I think that was putting it back into autofocus. I do have your HMC book heading my way I'm sure that that will answer a lot of ? that crop up as we work with this camera. Thanks
