Focus Lock/Face Tracking

Has anyone tested the AF100 with an autofocus lens using face recognition or locking the focus on an object? I'm fascinated with the possibility of doing something like this stop motion video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PRqLa7GFF0&feature=sub

but in full motion. That should be possible with the 14-140 and the AF100, correct? Give it an object or face to track in the frame and have it pull focus continuously for you?

So nobody knows the answer to this? I know some people have access to the AF100 currently, could somebody slap a 14-400 on and test it?

Going by the gh1, I don't think the facial recognition will be reliable enough to use on a time sensitive shoot. If you are just playing around with the cam, and can spare a few takes, I'm sure you could probably get similar results. Relying on the camera to keep focus instead of an AC is always going to be too risky to put into production.

I don't think one should realistically judge anything about a feature on the AF100 based upon the performance of the GH1. The GH2 would be a better comparison since it has much faster focusing than the GH1. But, ultimately, the only true test is on the AF100 itself.

Funny thing... my sister uses this feature on her consumer camcorder (Panasonic HDC-SD60) with her kids all the time, and it works extremely well.

I would never even think of using this feature at a shoot... but who knows what will happen over the next couple years. These are very exciting times, indeed.

i think it will be helpful if it works easily
specially during dolly ins or dolly outs.. or characters walking towards the camera..
