HPX250: Focus Issue at Full Telephoto

Lately I've been noticing on my HPX250 that when fully zoomed in on distant objects whilst in manual focus (with manual assist off or on), the focus hunts slightly but continually. In focus for a couple seconds then out and then back in again. Not always, but often enough to destroy some clips. Everything is on full manual so I don't understand why the lens is moving around. I'm locked down on a tripod. Am I missing something? I recently did the firmware upgrade from May in hopes of solving the problem but it didn't help. Thanks in advance.

There's an AUTO/MANUAL switch by the audio pots. It can be accidentally switched to AUTO just by taking the camera in and out the bag.
It has bitten me several times. Check it.
 
So how much is the lens moving, + or - how many from what you have set it one once you have it in full manual with no assistant turned on. What are your numbers at on the display?
