Focus Area, Grid Lines and More

Hi, I am new in the DVX100 (102 actually) world.
I cannot find any info as to which area the (auto) focus works and why I cannot select something like spot or center focus.
Or is this a weird question, typically from somebody crossing over from a life long use of still cameras?
I would also expect a turning on/off display grid lines function on a camera this magnitude. I really miss that (besides of course a set of full 16:9 CCD's).
To end this post here there is one point I keep reading over and over and still don't understand.
What is the puropose of the marker you can switch on or off. No idea what it is and how you can use it to your advantage.
Forgive me these dumb questions.

There are no ways to turn on any sort of gridline unfortunately, it would have been a great feature I agree. You can buy little static cling gridline/letterbox things to place on your lcd so that you can have them though. Or you do what i have done and print them onto acetate (just make sure you keep the ink side away from the screen)
The marker is used to evaluate light in your scence. Where ever you point the square that will evaluate the light level there. A great way to quickly get an idea of what light the camera is seeing...

Okay thanks, so the marker is just info about the relative light intensity (100% = max). Does that mean that de camera uses that marker area to base the exposure on, or does the DVX100 still use integral light measurement.
I cannot find anything about how this camera measures the light (and how it autofocusses (on which area) for that matter).
