Is the focal length of a shot stored in the MXF meta data? If it is how do you access the metadata where it shows the information? I use Premiere CS4 and it doesnt show up in there and it doesnt show up in the P2 viewer program reading directly off the p2 card.

Thanks in advance for any help!

It is not stored in the metadata, and all the metadata is available in the P2 Viewer program. You have to turn on the metadata in the camera to get the custom user fields to show up.

CS4 uses its own custom XML structure for Metadate, rips out whatever you have and inserts it's own including some "user" data from its programs. It currently ignores, (skips over) and discards any non-adobe XML metadata.

Barry is right, you'll need the raw MXF from the cards and the Panasonic software to view the user data that the camera may or may not have been configured to store. You can also use any MXF compliant viewer (not CS4) to view this user data in raw (unformatted).

This is a world away from the JPEG EXIF standard.

On a side note, I've seen some of this MXF metadata show up in DVCPRO quicktime dumps with-in the datastream fields, though not reported or parsed by the consumer program.

I'm guessing adobe is doing the same thing they did with the SLR market, which is force the camera to set the Gamma to Adobe RGB 1998. - Same as they did with Printers and PostScript.
