Great thread! I am in miami also! Got my DVX a couple of months ago and I love it.... Still learing and using it when I have some free time... (full time student and full time job) I would love to link up with any one shooting in the miami area to share ideas and experience. Shoot me an e-mail BryanBenitez@comcast.net or a pm. Lets spill this great online community over to our real communites! LOL... man that sounds like a psa.

I am in Destin, Fl. Just bought a lot of stuff now i dont know what to do with it :) steadicam, avid MCP, Canon XHA1, dollies, lights etc. Will produce a 4 hour program for a university as well as dabble in short films. Excellent places to shoot over here!
Cheers

:) not quite...but it is home to the 8th most beautiful beach in the world and we have more actors and directors vacationing here than anywhere else in florida! Seaside fl. is where the truman show was filmed down the road from me... very nice to live here.

I am also in Miami I have mostly done news production but want to branch out to narrative work. I have a lowell light kit and avid MCP. Would love to work with some other filmmakers here in South Florida.

Ocala Yeeeahhh :)

Ocala Yeeeahhh :)

Alright guys, who wants to start an Ocala group and get some projects going? I'm new to the area, moved here in January. Perhaps we could organize a simple meetup over a beer or something? I have some projects I want to work on and am planning to buy an HMC-150 later in the year, so nothing immediate, but I'm very well versed in lots of the Adobe Suite and also do some 3D work.

Also, www.zephyrstar.com for some of my work (website sucks, needs a total CSS makeover)

Whoaaa, I forgot all about this thread. My roommate told me about it and it's near 6 pages long. We should schedule a CFL group to meet up and network. I'm Ocala/Gainesville at the moment, maybe we can have various meetings that way people don't have to drive as far.

If you're Ocala email me up or myspace me

I'm little late here.

Thanks for letting me know about this thread Car3o.
Only people I know from the sunshine state were the two on the D90 section.

My day job I illustrate an animate pretty pictures, but an night I'm a slave to low budget film aesthetics, D.I.Y art and coffee shops.
Did some skate an hip hop videos for friends, then got into attaching 35mm lenses to all sorts of DV cameras.
As of recent I own a Nikon D90 and improving my skill in lighting and storytelling.

Central FL DVX User Fest

Central FL DVX User Fest

Hey all... Been planning to post to this thread for awhile- I am now ready to throw this out:

I have a studio here in ORLANDO (Winter park), right behind FULL SAIL. 1200 Feet of space, with office.

We shoot indie video, and do corporate stuf- your basic, garden variety low budget indie house with delusions of grandeur. We are currently in the midst of two horror shorts we are filming, tied to a feature spec script with a central story arc we are pitching.

The studio is a comfortable, relaxed, safe place. Gotta fridge for soda water and beer, microwave for snacks and a bathroom. Yes- we are air-conditioned. Got extra chairs and stools etc.

So- I will offer my place, free of charge this April 2009 at some point, for a trial DVXUSER meeting for FL users wanting to come by... as of right now, I am busy in pre, principal and post on these two horror shorts we are working on. But in April- I'd love to start something up, and am happy to provide space.

Here is one caveat: You must be an active user and contributor of this board, or can be vouched for by an active user. I will review posts, PMs etc and this will be like an invite kinda thing.

If you drink the soda beer and snacks- kick in for what you consume in the anonymous donation till (suggested donation 5 to ten bucks- not mandatory at this point). Clean up after yourself (food/bathrooom), and otherwise prepare to have a kick-ass networking good time. Meeting times will DEFINITELY be at night, or at least after 6PM. Suggested meeting times, 3 hours. But we can stay as late as I deem cool if any viewings go over.

I suggest a meet and greet "cocktail hour" (OK, since I am buying the first round, cheap a$$ beer and soda- don't know about cocktails yet), a discussion of people's projects, a viewing of user films, a gear session where we demonstrate what we got here and what people bring, a guest speaker type deal with themes to meetings and so forth. Under 21- soda and so forth only, please.

I can make available for hands on fun: HVX200, M2 Adapter, Kessler Crane (5.5, 8 &12). Dolly and track, Flouro and Tungsten kits, tripods, Scrim Jims, grip bags, Oktavas, Rode NTG-s, mixer, boom pole, C-Stands etc. We got black curtains hanging and chroma key for experiments and such.

NO- this is definitely not an opportunity to come shoot your project for free using my gear and studio for 2 hours while everyone sits around watching. This is for fun, learning and hanging out for the sake of film appreciation and team building. Be a jedi about the process, or go elsewhere. Not ruling out joint projects, as long as we are all down with it...

This stuff of course all costs me money in lease, power and opportunity cost,(studio, gear etc) but I am happy to give back to the board that has given me such much over the past few years.

I am doing this to meet available folks, who have a passion for filmmaking and want to grow with a group of friends and pros. I am a director and producer with industry contacts, and yes- I am also team building here too- you might end up with a gig outtta the process. Fame, fortune, babes, etc... Did I mention cheap a$$ beer?

Ground rules: YOU MUST BE COOL. NO bitching, no posers, no abusers, no posturing, no threats, no violence, no weapons, no egos or attitude. Come to learn, meet and have fun. This is not a mandatory public service I am offering, but an opportunity for like minded individuals to get together and grow. I don't care whether you are a first year film student or a $1000+ a day pro- all are welcome as long as we all keep it real and abide by the spirit of the above ground rules. I do have insurance- and I do have security. Which I won't go into. Again- safety and fun are the main things here folks.

Also, my crib, so I will set the first couple agendas- but we'll keep it loosey-goosey. Got ideas? Post em or PM. This will be a group experience, where we all bring stuff to the table.

If the above sounds cool, or at least acceptable and interesting, post or PM. if it doesn't sound cool, then, well... heck. You need to get out more.

Let's get together and talk about making great cinema!

P.S. I am still crewing up for that second horror short I mentioned above- we are shooting 3 days of principal and 2 days of pickups/green screen next week- shooting on HVX200A- it's a no budget/deferred kinda deal. I will be posting the details elsewhere for FULL SAIL folks, mainly. However if u are interested, scope out our website or PM me.

Mighty cool of you Douglas, even if you went into Mother mode ;) Seriously though, I do hope this goes somewhere. Been here in OTown for 6 months already, and have yet to meet anybody.

This is beyond awesome. I was nodding and grinning with approval at the "like a jedi" statement. I'm more than willing to pitch in the $ for the upkeep, etc. Thanks for being so cool about it and offering this. Sounds great, count me in.
