Floating lines though Screen

has anyone else noticed a floating bubble-like, horizontal line floating through their footage? it typically starts at or near the bottom of the screen and within a fraction of a second it floats vertically through the frame. i can barely notice it on my camera's LCD, but when i load the footage into my computer it is very obvious. its noticeable when viewing footage in my Clip Browser and in my NLE(Adobe Premiere).
--i'm contacting Sony today to find out more. i'll keep you posted.

i'm a novice with edting. so, i'll try to post an example. it might be a few days until that time comes. Philip Bloom and i have been discussing this issue for the past week. it might not be noticeable on smaller monitors like the camera's LCD or monitors smaller then my 23" Dell. i tried viewing this "line" on my 15.4" MacBook Pro and had no luck spotting it. so, gentlemen "size does matter". stay tuned to view examples of this anomaly.

are you sure its not just the strobe wave effect caused by certain hrtz frequences of electric lights?

What frame rate, shutter are you using? Is your ambient light fluorescent?

What country are you shooting in?

It sure sounds like what Matthew is asking about.
Shoot outside and post your results.

Well, if it turns out your camera has an issue, Sony service is in San Jose.
We see no issues viewing ours on 50" monitors

i don't know. what does that mean? i know it happens when only using ambient light if that helps.

what were saying is that flurescent lights can cause a flicker effect because they pulsate at a certain frequency, a camera shutter speed can pick it up at certain shutter speeds.
Play around with shutter speeds, shutter off and see if the pulsating disapears.
I was filming a factory wall last night under huge fluro lights and it looked as if the walls were alive and pulsating, was accidental becuase I should have set shutter speed at another rate to cancel it out.. but I like the effect actually.

But like the guys said, if it happens in daylght its another issue.

it not a flicker. it happens while shooting under the light of the sun. i think it might have something to do with my card reader sitting on my desktop computer while uploading footage. maybe there is some kind of electrical glitch?

I got it when I was doing my backfocus testing and it looked to be caused by the overhead FL lights. Looked like sort of a soft, rolling noise bar sliding up the screen, IIRC. If I still have the clip, I can post a chunk but I'm not too worried about it. I could have gone into the shutter menu and probably dialed it out but it didn't affect what I was doing.

That is one of the effects of a rolling shutter. If shooting in an NTSC territory, try using a shutter speed of 1/40th or 1/60th to get rid of it; you *cannot* use 1/48th or you'll get the bars.

If in a PAL territory, you might get rid of the scrolling bars if you use 1/50th but I haven't tried.

Yes, I've experienced this floating line several times, although not recently. That's because I no longer keep my cell phone near the camera. I read somewhere (can't remember where) that fluorescent lights and cell phones can cause picture anomalies. I've also experienced a weird light pulsing (like i stop up and down). Another issue is fading letters on the camera body. I just sent Sony an e-mail. Thnks

i have a feeling that my issue is due to my computer/monitor. i've watched some footage i've shot on other computers and haven't witnessed these lines. i've already replaced my video-card and the problem is still present. to be continued...
