Flipping frames - is there a DVCPRO-HD codec documentation?

I wonder how I could flip the footage of M2 DVCPRO-HD footage for editing without losing ANY quality.

See, I don't care about monitoring, I'm talking about editing. You HAVE to flip it at some time, and I don't want to re-render - I don't think DVCPRO-HD has the "headroom" to do many recompressions. And I don't want to use a different high-bandwidth codec either, since it would use much, much more disk space.

The only solution is: flipping without recoding! Could this be possible? Maybe. Would take a look into the DVCPRO-HD codec documentation (if available). Maybe, MAYBE, there is a way to reorganise the DCT blocks, somehow, some way... Crazy? Dunno.

Anyone out there who knows if there is such a document available somewhere?

Well I can't remember the last time I shot something and not apply some sort of filter to it, whether color correction or proc amp, I gotta render it anyway. Flip Flopping won't degrade it anymore at that point.

My M2 is on the way and I'm also looking into this for FCP, perhaps using a small external app to process an XML all all your project clips outside of FCP. This could then add the necessary filter to every clip in the XML so they are set like this in the Browser.

Just so I'm clear though, is the flip a simple upside down (vertical flip) or does it also need a horizontally flip?

Thanks
Mark
