Flight Case for HVX

I've been flying with my HVX for a while, but have always run into issues with carrying on my portabrace bag. It's just slightly too big for larger flights, but I'm usually able to get away with it, but on puddle jumpers it always way too big. On a recent return trip from chicago I was forced to check the bad, but I took the camera out and wrapped it in a shirt in my backpack - of course they lost my bag. It showed up the next day, but I was definitely livid.
Anyhow, I'm looking for a genral consensus, should I get a nice big hardcase and just cross my fingers and check my bags all the time from now on, or find a smaller carry on solution.
I bought a portabrace backpack, but it was twice the size of my current case and is way to hige for any airline. I've been considering the Cinebags Backpack, but it seems on the hairy edge of carry on requirements. Has anyone had any experience or success with this?

Thanks

ive flown several cameras all over the globe in pelican 1650 cases and the only casualty in 4 years has been 1 firewire cable.

google up sailtech marine. they are just south of houston. cheapest authorised pelican dealer in the country - if anywhere!
call them, ask for dick. tell him wayne from houston sent you.

here is a link to how i have mine set up:

the cool part about the "pick-and-pluck" foam is that what you remove can be stuck back in to form a 3D space...

tested various tipe of case for the HVX, and the best chioce is the Pelican or peli 1610 case, this case is not to big, similar to 1600.

Thanks Guys!
I ordered a Cinebags backpack to test as a carry on device and will go with the hardcase for the accessories and reunite them once I land into the hardcase.
