Flight case for 500? (carry-on vs checked)

Any advice? One shooter friend says he never puts his (BetaSP) in a case - carrys on & stows it in an overhead on pillows, with jacket over. Wondering about PortaBrace's trick bag that goes from a "body glove" sort of thing to individual compartments for lens, body, battery that lash together into one carry bag.

Also, other flight tips w/ gear would be appreciated.

Hey just shot 7 TVC all over NZ we are using a petrol case for our 500 and we had to use cargo luggage :( it was too big for carry on, but it made it round the country fine, lots of fragile stickers and a good trick is to loosen the EVF so it can move freely on the mount that way if it takes a hit/drop then it wont snap it just moves about.

Good Luck

PortaBrace makes a carry-on - the Smuggler I think it's called - that is exact diminsions for most airlines (45").. The 500 will fit if disassembled (lens and finder) - but remember to take a battery so you can power it up for security..

I had one all set to go for a trip recently, then discovered I would also be travling on some small turboprops which don't allow those carry-ons, so I changed my plans and only took a 200, which I sent through luggage in a Storm case with a Zacuto insert...
