Fliegende Ratten rough-cut

hi everybody!

"Fliegende Ratten" (Flying Rats) is a feature length film i shot on a DVX100E (PAL). i just got to watch the very first rough cut and wanted to share with you a bit.
it's 6min. length from the opening sequence. outdoors were shot at night without additional lighting (available light). used anamorphic lens, cropped to 2.35:1

warning: it was digitized from a DVD (authored with apple iDVD) to FCP, through RTMac analog inputs, 4:3 (letterboxed to 2.35:1). on FCP it was squeezed and exported to 720x326 quicktime... means, lot's of re-compressions. i got some kind of a field artifact which i couldn't work around.

..very good work shai. by the time the girl was walking away, i was thinking that it looked like winning sundance material. great camerawork.. really impressive.

Shai has been producing some rockstar DVX footage since 2003. Always nice to see his work. THis was Sundance worthy; felt like Lost in Translation, Amorres Perros, 21 Gramish....

..definitely agreed. could use some music though. even if just a little ambient stuff ..like some parts of the score to "the crow".
...or what you could do.. is make a force field.. that s the cobra forces cant get through.. and it can make special rbots that transform like a chameleon..

I was thinking the same thing Neil; perhaps a little chime of chords (apreggio style). Somber.

Or a nuclear explosion maybe.

just to remind you all.. it's a rough cut..!!! the director even defines it as 'assembly'.. he's also writing the score for this film.. so it's going to be treated very nicely audio wise!!!

This is really great work. I watched it a few days ago and the imagery stayed in my mind. There is so much quick editing circulating that it's nice to follow action in virtually real time.

I am really looking forward to seeing the entire work.
