Flickering Line Problem

I shot some footage yesterday, and all of it has a very thin, flickering line in the upper left corner of the screen. I shot it in 1080/24pa, shutter speed 1/60 and used the cine-v preset with some reduction of the detail levels. Luckily, in this case, I can mask it out and get around the problem, but if this were any other type of shot, I'd be in a pinch now. Any ideas as to what caused this so that I can prevent it in the future? Here's a sample:

Several people have reported it; it appears that it's an artifact on the original HVX200 when using 1080/24pA mode. Only way to fix it is to mask off the top pixel of the frame. Most HDTVs don't show every line anyway so it's not likely that anyone will ever see it, but if you want to get rid of it, shoot 1080/24p or any 720p mode or 1080i or if you want 1080/24pA, you will have to mask out that top pixel.

plaine,

I've experienced and written about this "artifact" in the past too.

It's the only major hiccup in the HVX200 in my opinion. And Interestingly enough, I don't see the "artifact" while viewing video using P2CMS. Only after pulldown is taken out in an NLE. So it may not be the HVX200 after all.

Barry,

While the camcorder is manufactured by a broadcast company, there's heaps of people here using it for non-broadcast. No HDTVs involved. I see the "artifact" in these circumstances: when video is digitally projected, when wrapped in a QuickTime movie, and sometimes even when scaled down to SD resolution for DVD.

Best,
Andrew Burke
