Hi,
i just got my GH1 ystdy, and when i tried for the 1st time, i noticed right away that the there are both horizontal and vertical (horizontal is more noticable) lines flickering LCD (i set camera to Manual both A & S, auto ISO and yes, in indoor/low light). And those flickering lines (or maybe it's called streaks) actually showing in the picture & videos (i noticed them after i copied & watched them on my computer screen).

In fact, if I close the lens with it's cap, you can see the streaks / flickering lines (set the cam in Manual Mode) in LCD screen (with the black background since you cover the lens). Anybody experience this?

Can somebody test it (by cover the lens with the cap and notice the flickering lines). I might get a defective unit here. Something wrong with the sensor?

If your camera is set for Auto ISO, and you're putting your lens cap on, it's forcing the camera to go to ISO 1600, so the noise and lines are normal for that ISO. Switch your camera to Creative Movie Mode, switch everything to full manual, and set your ISO to something reaonable...like 400. 800 at the highest. The lines and noise should be much, much less the. Also, in Film Mode, try setting the Noise Reduction to at least 0, maybe to +1 or +2 when shooting in low light situations.
 
I'm afraid it sounds like you got a defective unit. I've seen nothing of what you describe on mine. Can you post a screenshot from a photo?
 
i definitely see flickering lines on the LCD while shooting in low light, but only when underexposing do i actually see them on the movie on my computer screen. Make sure its not just the LCD compensation for low light by setting it to Creative movie mode and making everything manual in the settings.

When using 'M' mode on the dial (for shooting stills) i also get flickering lines in low light (if i move from good light the screen looks perfect, but then into low light it starts flickering and the shutter starts to slow), but they go away when i take the picture - unless i am very underexposed and at a high ISO, where i can see 'streaks' or 'banding' or 'noise'.
 
okay here's the screen shot. i'm using motion-jpeg (.mov) format. the horizontal lines noise are in the darker area.

okay, the i cut the video 5sec in Vegas and the avi is big (20meg) and i'm uploading to vimeo. I dont think my work-flow is correct here (sorry newbie here).

anyway, here's the 5sec clip (the lines aren't that visible due to vimeo's compression but you can download it):

like i said, the same flickering horizontal lines also appeared (okay, maybe flickering is not the right term, not sure what's the correct term) when the lens cap is on (attached), is very subtle but it's there. BUT, i noticed it again when i switched the dial to Video Mode, the lines are dissapeared (still with the lens cap on/attached).

so, maybe the correct or best way to take video (okay, i havent read the manual yet) is by swiching the dial to the Video Mode.

NobbyStylus, so i think you have the same issue, so maybe it's not an issue? tomorrow i'll check to local camera store to compare.

I have it too.

Happen in ISO 400 too if underexpose.

That is poor implementation of the camera in my opinion, just learn how to avoid it...

TOTALLY NORMAL - not defective -

See the huge thread on this forum - to summarize - it goes away with time, just leave your gh1 on at 1600 for a few hours.
