Flickering by fluo with DVX100 PAL 25p

Hi all
Recently I shooted one documentary in the states with my DVX100AE (PAL).
We shooted at 25p and I noticed that sometimes with fluorescent light I got some strong flickering that I never saw before. In Europe with interlaced cameras I got sometimes some flickering, or when we made film we had to pay attention with the shutter angle and so on. But I never saw anything like this. It is really disturbing and I had no way of avoiding these places so we have some footage with the flickering on it

Anyone knows if it has to do with the 60Hz of USA, or is just the 25p and bad luck…

I heard sometimes of “anti flickering filters” anyone had any experience with those? Any recommendation? Or any link to some web?

Thank you!

Stephane

You should of been able to solve the problem by setting the DVX to 1/60 shutter speed.
(Probably had its default at 1/50?)

Refer to page 29 of ur dvx manual....shutter speed....for details

It definitely relates to changes in synchronisation of the luminance level of flouresecent lights with the power line frequency. In areas such as States with power line frequency of 60 Hz, the vertical sync frequency of the camera (50Hz) interferes causing flickering. C

Change your shutter spped to 1/60 while in the States and you should be fine.

well I do not think that any pal camera has a shutter speed of 60Hz, or????

Hey fanetin,
you mention the AJ-DVX100AE and that has 1/60, but no, I'm sure not ALL PAL cams have 1/60.

The DVX has a button called SHUTTER 'behind' the LCD screen. Press it, and then click through the shutter speeds on the button marked SPEED SEL.

BTW, I HIGHLY recommend THE DVX BOOK, by Barry Green (just check one of his posts for a link). Although it is a little NTSC based, it gives PLENTY info for PAL users!
Money well spent for any DVX owner.
