Flicker Using Greeen Screen....

I tried an interview test today, using a green screen and edited in PP2. Used f5 on the DVX in squeeze mode. Edited on the 24p timeline.

After comping and rendering several different formats, there is a very noticable "flicker" around the subject.

Is this the 24p framerate or the "green screen effect" causing this flicker?

Will try it with the Ultra2 demo to compare results.

Thanks,
Jeff

Are you really talking about flicker or a kind of shimmer effect? Flicker actually being a kind of repetitive pattern between black and light. I've noticed on some poor keys there's a kind of halo that's composed of a kind of moving bunch of "bumps" for lack of a better term sticking out from the subject. It can be caused by a lot of things including poor lighting / separation of the subject and the screen. One thing to think about , did you have some rim lighting around the subject coming from the back? That's just another trick used to counteract any green spill there might have been.

Cool lights...........I think you hit on it.

To reduce the shadows on the GS, I turned on a flouresent light that just happen to be above and just behind the subject. That "shimmer" is probably the shimmer of the light.............duh, shouldnt have done that.

Thanks,
Jeff

Pulling a good key in DV is very challenging. I gave up and upgraded to an HVX and DVCPRO50 for that reason. Having said that, you can still pull a good key with a DVX but will need really optimal lighting conditions. Ideally have the subject 10 feet from the green screen with a low-power magenta backlight to cancel out spill (magenta is the polar opposite of chroma-key green.) Otherwise you will have a case of the crawlies, what I'm guessing you're referring to by spill. The crawlies are common with green screens that are under less-than-perfect conditions. I even notice it watching my local weather on the news.
