Let me preface this by saying that I absolutely despise this program.

OKAY! So I've got a flash document open, and I'm doing an animation in it. There's a little character dancing to the beat of some music. I've got my audio in there, and when I preview it (ctrl + enter) it works just fine. But when I scrub through the animation or try to play it from anything other than the first key frame I can't hear anything.

I called a friend of mine who sometimes uses Flash, and he says that he's had this problem before too, and has no idea how to fix it.

Any ideas?

Stupid Flash.

If the first frame calls the music from a different layer, then you won't be able to hear it halfway through.

Is the audio an embedded file or an external file? If it's an embedded (let me try to remember this)... then the audio's timeline will be as long as the actual audio file. If it's an external file, then it's only one keyframe which is probably on your first animation frame.

I imported the file into the library- so it should be working...

Theres a thing in there somewhere that enables audio during scrubbing but its disabled as a default. I don't have flash installed so I can't go to the menu and tell you exactly. You can find it here though:

I think they are the best Flash forums out there.

PM me a link and I'll DL your FLA to take a look at it.

If you import a file to the library it's fine... but... you'd have to put it on the timeline and not just in the document.

So... you'd create a new layer and put the audio on it. If it's embedded in the scene, then it will frames equal to it's length in seconds.

AH! You guys both rock- both websites were fantastic.

It was just an option that had to be changed.

Thank you!

Good job! I've never known it to not play back sound. Then again I don't work with sound in flash often. Just illustrations, web, and AS2.0.

Let me see when it's done, TC!

It's a group project for my 2D animation class. I'll post it in a couple weeks once it's all finished.
