Wanted to provide a thread dedicated to the ones who want to gather information about encoding their movies into flash.
It seems since flash became a good alternative to quicktime, windows media player and real player, it hasn't really caught on among film makers themselves.
the question is: is ON2 better than sorenson? here are multiple samples side by side:
http://www.flashvideofaq.com/
the ON2 VP6 codec:
http://www.on2.com/
The Flix encoder can do multipass, here is their forum:
http://www.flixforums.com/index.php
flash has a high penetration of userbase, but requires player 8 or later to use the On2 VP6 codec what do you guys think
flash penetration vs quicktime etc:
http://www.adobe.com/products/player_census/flashplayer/
flash player version penetration:
http://www.adobe.com/products/player_census/flashplayer/version_penetration.html
flash player 8 or higher test (flash 6 doesn't do ON2):
http://www.on2.com/flashtest/
if settling for flash 6 and higher, perhaps sorenson spark is the way to go?:
http://www.sorensonmedia.com/pages/?pageID=99
http://livedocs.macromedia.com/flash/8/main/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=LiveDocs_Parts&file=00000646.html
a discussion on why flash decided to go with on2 vp6 versus H.264 and others
http://www.kaourantin.net/2005/08/quest-for-new-video-codec-in-flash-8.html
sorenson doesn't require as much computer power by the user, from adobe site:
http://livedocs.macromedia.com/flash/8/main/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=LiveDocs_Parts&file=00000647.html
the thing that would be the most welcome is if people could post their own resources, where to find information, tools, forums, etc.
but most of all, samples of the different compression tools matched against each other or peoples sites with the information of how it was encoded
thanks
