hi all,
i'm a french owner of a dvx 100AEN, using and enjoying it from nearly 2 years, but i got a problem during my last music video, look at it.
SCREW%20HOLE%20SPLITTED.JPG

I'm using my international mack warranty, but my english is far from perfection, and i dont have the right terms to explain the problem.
IN FRENCH, it's called " PAS DE VIS", wich give me in a word to word traduction, "STEP OF SCREW", but i dont think it is the right term.
Can you help me?

Does anyone has already had this problem with this camera? Is it a long time repair? and of course is it a High cost repair (if the warranty denie to take charge of it)?

thanks for answers

Probably the right word you are looking for is the tripod mounting screw on the bottom of the camera is broken/split.

:)

"The threaded hole on the bottom of the camera into which tripod screws has split".

Now, and observation: Yours looks like it's actually a 3/8th hole with a 1/4 adapter screwed into it. This is not unusual in the still camera world, and if it is, you'd be better off removing the 1/4 adapter and using the 3/8th hole to mount your camera, if your tripod will accomodate it, which most will.

I just checked the bottom of my DVX100a, and it does NOT use an adapter- but the European version may be different- it would not surprise me.

Bon Chance!

Hello jqckwithoneye,

We are a service center and see this problem all the time. The part is very inexpensive. It takes at least an hour of labor though to get to it. The entire side of the camera needs to come down. You may want to have it professionally repaired.

jqckwithoneye, the same thing happened to me in the worst time. I couldn't let go of my camera for repair, so I bought the simple part from a local service shop. It was $40, and all I did was remove 5 screws from the bottom panel, remove the broken piece, insert the new one, return the 5 screws, et voila!

i really want to thank you all for your answers.
each one of you helped me.
i'll tell you when my final result of repairation (manually or professionally , i'm still not decided) will be out.
re-thx all
MERCI BEAUCOUP!!

Just keep in mind that it may not be that simple. Sometimes they aren't cracked the whole way through, which is the best way. Then Rush's intructions may be applicable. Usually they are cracked the whole way through which requires GREAT care. Once the pieces are unscrewed from the chassis you have a chance that ones of the sides will fall into the unit. Or sometimes they almost crumble and when unscrewed the small metal fragments could fall in. It's best to have the entire side down to change the tripod mounts out so that you can make sure that you have all metal fragments cleared from your precious DVX.

It's always best to be safe rather than sorry.
