Fish Flapping Sound

I am finishing up a short film entitled "The Angler" and am in need of a sound fx that is or resembles that of a fish on a hook flapping around out of water. It needs to be on a hard surface as the shot is on a large, wet rock. Does anyone out there have a sound like this? I am willing to pay for a good, high quality file..

Make your own. Get a damp chamois, slap it around on a hard surface. If it's a wooden dock, put a sheet of OSB across some scraps of 2x4, or try setting it down on an area rug.

Vince will sell you a great set of chamois towels for only $19.95.

I'd be reaching for a chamois as well. If you find you need a bit more weight behind the flops, you could always drop by the fish market first.

I hate to sound ignorant but what is a chamois?

I might have something like that in a library. Let me know if you come up short and need a hand.

A chamois is a super-absorbent towel (traditionally made from the skin of the chamois, a goat-like animal native to Eastern Europe). They've been favored for years for polishing, drying cars (except for Cameron Fry's father, who polished his collector cars with a diaper).

Nowadays, they're mostly synthetic, or made from other animals (the chamois is a protected species now).

Very handy in foley.

C2V, Thanks for the suggestion, I will try that out. I originally had a fish on location and was not satisfied with the audio, so maybe I will try something like the "shammy", or record the fish in a more sound-proofed environment.

Quirk, I think I like your six-pack idea best although it would have to be ice fishing, but I've always wanted to try that anyways.

Matt, If you do have something I would love to hear it if its not too much trouble. This sound effect is the most important in my film. Every other sound in this particular scene gets sucked away by the building audio of a fish flapping so I need something perfect.

Thanks again for the comments! I am learning a ton about sound design through this short as I am using no sound from the production. There is also no dialogue and it is not a "silent film", it relies heavily on creating an environment through the sound design.

The fish sound was painfully obvious.

First, great shots... fantastic location (where/how in the world did you find that place?!). And a neat film overall. Nice editing, great score. I really like the color treatment.

But the audio mix was a bit rough. In the opening sequence, the foley of his footsteps running through the woods were not timed to his actual footsteps. In the final scene, the background sounds kep cutting in and out, and were also a bit inconsistent. The fish flapping around was too forward in the mix... it jumped out way too much. The project could use a run through ProTools.

That said... a very nice film.
