First Video

I know, I know...  I feel bad even posting this here with all the talent I've seen but...

I bought my DVX(a) to shoot fishing videos to sell from my website (among other things.)  Basically I team up with local fishing guides and film on the Potomac River starting at Washington D.C. and going about 20 miles south.  I'm looking for repeat customers for future videos and so I want some critiquing.

Technical: DVX100a, Vegas+DVD, 30P with modified F6 profile, Senn wireless, Senn 415 shotgun & windsock.

This is my first video project EVER.  Just be sure to tell me if there are things I can improve on.  The following clip is just to show a little detail.  It’s the beginning and end of the video:

This clip is extremely compressed but is the entire 20 minute movie (not expecting anyone to sit through all of this:

Please critique the video’s look with the first link and the cuts and overall scenes with the second.

DON’T FALL ASLEEP!!!

Thanks Guys… Jonathan

Re: First Video

Thanks stran.  I'm exporting to .mov.  Just realized the mac users may not be able to view this?  Is that why everyone uses .mov?

Re: First Video

The shot at the end with the clouds reflected in the Potomac looks great. Also, the sound is really good.

My one criticism is about the titles at the beginning. "Tours of the Potomac" should be bigger and bolder than "Nanjemoy Creek" in order to be the first read. Maybe consider swapping the fonts.

Re: First Video

I liked it. The music fits really well. In the second half, when you cut to the speedboat, I felt it was a little distracting, but maybe that's just me.

Re: First Video

Hey guys, seriously I really appreciate it. I need all the help I can get. Thanks for taking the time. Anyone else have suggestions?

The speedboat is the boat he's fishing from.  As he says "you come in on plane" I show him coming in on plane (meaning come in fast so your boat runs more shallow through the water so as not to strike your propeller.) I guess I could have left that little cut out.

Re: First Video

Thanks guys. I know this type of work is more forgiving than filming movies. I recently read about the 180 rule which I guess I could apply in this type of video too (like make sure I get him moving the same way in his boat in each segment.) Are there other rules that I could apply and is there a book that can help me with framing and any other rules I should adhear to? I'm also looking to get into howto videos but again don't know of any books on the topic.
